Beverley Gate
The remains of Beverley Gate are where, in 1642, Sir John Hotham refused Charles I entry to the city, an act of defiance widely acknowledged as the spark that ignited the English Civil War. The redevelopment of this site is part of the £26m redevelopment of the city centre and will see access retained and improved. The space around the gate will be improved to provide a more attractive public space, where people can sit closer to the remains at a higher level.
